The channel “Lore” is about the practices/stories from the folk life of Assam. The content is our attempt to introduce the wealth of the Assamese culture, an initiative to preserve sounds, stories, instruments which are all based on the relationship of man with nature.
Currently there are 2 categories of videos in Lore. The videos are made in Assamese language (with English subtitles).
1) Instruments
The work is short videos of musical instruments of the region. Our attempt is to bring out the stories of the instruments, to learn how to play them, rediscover them.
2) Manuscripts
These short videos are about the Manuscripts of Assam, a practice that has been revived by very few practitioners of Assam.
From 16th century onwards, Neo-Vaishnavism rose in the India state of Assam under the Vaishnava reformer Sankaradeva. And with it, manuscript painting flourished too! But over the years, many of the old manuscripts got damaged and the art declined. Reasons being – decline of the Ahom dynasty, Moamoria rebellion, Burmese and British occupations, apathy of the public, natural calamities and proliferation of the printing press. Currently, this tradition is carried on by very few practitioners.
