Dhul (Drum)

A log of jackfruit or gamble wood about two cubits long is scooped out in the middle with chisel. The two drumheads are covered with cowhide and tightened with the help of braces. The right drumhead is operated with a drumstick and the left drumhead with hand. It has 13 constituent parts. The tribal population has there own versions of this with variations and with their own distinctness. It is unavoidable in Assamese culture. The Dhul is of two varieties: the Bihu Dhul and the Oja Dhul (Wedding drum).

Live classes

Both kinds of Dhul are taught at NOI and Bhumi center, once a week
