The dance form evolved as an ingenious contrivance for propogation of Bhakti faith by Sankardeva and Madhavadeva on the principles of classical dance and subsequently developed by the Sattra institutions with all artistic manifestations leading to a distinctive trait and termed as Sattriya Dance.
